Ilford Photo at Focus on Imaging 2007

Press Information:
Mobberley, Cheshire, United Kingdom. 30 January 2007:

Synonymous with the term 'black-and-white photography', ILFORD PHOTO is the world's leading supplier of products in this arena - a responsibility it takes seriously, as will be demonstrated at this year's Focus on Imaging exhibition.

Focus on photo
This last year has seen a great deal of advancement by ILFORD PHOTO in progressing the world of black-and-white photography, both film-based and digital, and the company's stand at Focus on Imaging 2007 (National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, 24-29 February) will reflect much of this development.

This major presence by the company underlines the continuing commitment of ILFORD PHOTO and parent company HARMAN technology to the monochrome genre.

Among a wealth of new products and opportunities for black-and-white enthusiasts to be shown at Focus on Imaging will be ILFORD SFX200 film making a welcome return to the ILFORD film family. Perfect for landscapes, mountainscapes and similar subjects due to its ability to add high definition to green foliage, cloud formations and open skies, this film is especially effective when combined with the ILFORD SFX200 Cokin 'P' series mounted red filter.

A major user of ILFORD SFX is professional photographer Dave Butcher (www.davebutcher.net ) who will be demonstrating its use on the ILFORD PHOTO stand. Special promotional packs of the film will be available for purchase at the show, and an ILFORD SFX200 competition will be announced.

Another new promotional item being unveiled will be the offer of packs of 75 sheets of ILFORD MULTIGRADE IV paper with a free set of filters (offer applies to UK only), while, on the competition trail, the overall winner of the ILFORD PHOTO Student of the Year 2006 programme will be announced, and details provided of the new Student of the Year 2007 contest.

Other guest photographers on the stand will include Tim Rudman (www.thegalleryonthegreen.co.uk/events/coldsnap.html) and Philip Pankov (www.philpankov.com), both of whom will welcome the chance to talk to visitors about their passion for black-and-white photography. A collection of their images will be on display.

The ILFORD HARMAN selenium toner will be demonstrated, and the leaflet 'Selenium Toner Tips' will be available. This high quality formula superbly emphasises the versatile tonal range of black-and-white prints, and is supplied as a ready-prepared easy-to-use liquid.

Services to black-and-white photography users via ILFORD PHOTO's retail network have increased this year, most notably with the introduction of the company's Direct2Dealer system. Visitors to the ILFORD PHOTO stand can collect a Direct2Dealer catalogue which details all of the company's products (these catalogues are also available from participating retailers, colleges and universities, or can be requested by telephoning 0800 234 6484).

The same telephone number is used to order and pay for the products required direct from ILFORD PHOTO, which are sent to the customer's nearest participating stockist from where they can be collected.

Also available from participating retailers are the ILFORD PHOTO prepaid processing packs. These packs include an envelope via which exposed ILFORD film is sent to ILFORD PHOTO's laboratory for processing and direct return. Packs are available which include a roll of film or a single-use camera.

ILFORD PHOTO's new GALERIE FB DIGITAL paper has been attracting a great deal of interest, and full details will be available, along with sample shots showing the remarkable results which can be achieved with this special paper by photographers' labs which use digital printers such as Lambda and Lightjet. At this time, this paper is only available in rolls for professional lab use rather than in darkroom sheets.

For photographers and institutions wishing to relate standard ILFORD RC and FB photographic paper to digital photography, ILFORD PHOTO has formed an alliance with Odyssey Sales, manufacturer of the De Vere 504DS digital enlarger which has the unique capability to photographically expose the image from a digital file onto traditional black-and-white paper.

For the run of Focus, a De Vere system will be included in a mobile darkroom and printing unit sited close to the ILFORD PHOTO stand. Run by an Arts Council-funded organisation called Redeye to bring knowledge about photography to schools, colleges, community centres, etc, the unit is sponsored by ILFORD PHOTO parent company HARMAN technology, while its space and electricity costs at the show are being generously provided by Focus on Imaging organiser Mary Walker.

While at Focus, the unit will be run by Andrew Sanderson, one of ILFORD PHOTO's Masterclass printers, who will be giving free workshops on darkroom techniques such as film and print developing, toning, etc.

Also on the educational front, ILFORD PHOTO is keen to hear from visitors who are lecturers on the camera club circuit. This is part of the company's plans to encourage and assist those with a serious interest in black-and-white photography.

With all this activity, as well as a free prize draw and numerous giveaways, the ILFORD PHOTO stand looks set to be the hub of activity for all those serious about beautiful photography. It's sure to be busy, so put a visit to ILFORD PHOTO at the top of your 'must see' list.

Many of these products and events can be found at www.ilfordphoto.com while others are so new, Focus on Imaging is the only place to see them. Don't miss this opportunity to be ahead of the crowd - ILFORD PHOTO is photo.
